Chemicals of Creation is a collaboration between Devon James and DJ DR TEETH video by: Jon Conklin & Ben Addonizio
CHEMICALS OF CREATION is the duo of Devon James Stewart (devon.james) and John Kunz (Dr. Teeth). The two met during the winter of 2010 in an audio production class at Syracuse University. They started mixing together later that summer, but don’t be fooled – these guys have over 20 years of musical experience combined. Devon has played the guitar since the age of 9 and has toured all over the United States and Europe, primarily playing guitar for the legendary Ska band from Jamaica, The Skatalites. While on tour during the summer of 2007, Devon started producing electronic music on his laptop computer and later picked up DJ-ing while a freshman at Syracuse. After producing original tracks and mixes for fashion shows, Devon gained a reputation as one of the most sought after musicians on campus and many other student organizations started to hire him for events. Now in his senior year, Devon continues to play for events put on by the school and student organizations as well as playing at house parties, nightclubs, local venues, festivals, and any other place where there are people looking to have a good time. Devon also serves as the RPM Director for WERW, Syracuse University’s student-run radio station. John Kunz started spinning in 2007, using strictly vinyl. His main influences stemmed from hip-hop and battle scratching, but then expanded his interests across many different genres. When these two come together, the music gets loud, the floors shakes, and the people get wild. Their sound might be described as heavy metal dance music, but don’t be so quick to slap a label on this dynamic duo. CHEMICALS are constantly downloading, remixing, and producing music of many different genres in an attempt to please all those who step out onto the dance floor. It’s clear to anyone who sees them perform; these guys are passionate about what they do. After graduation, Devon plans to start traveling all around the world DJ-ing and making music while John finishes college – and then? Well…more CHEMICALS!!!
